Video platform UU: FAQ migration
-
Only teachers employed by Utrecht University by default have permissions to record video’s, and have a personal folder in the Videoplatform. Students and other employees can request permission by sending an email to teachingsupport@uu.nl with an explanation why it is necessary.
When you were an unknown user with the Videoplatform at the time of the migration, your recordings from MyMediasite couldn’t be transferred to a personal folder. Send an email to videoplatform@uu.nl to request a transfer of your old media to your new personal folder in the Videoplatform. Please mention your name and Solis-ID.
The Shared Folders from MyMediasite are not visible anymore in your personal channel view in the video platform. The folders have been transferred but are only accessible from their original location. Please contact your faculty key user for getting access to the folder or video’s.
No. All the existing video’s within MyMediasite are transferred and old URL’s (links) automatically direct you to the same video within the new Videoplatform. This means that you do not have to replace any links (on Blackboard for example).
Send an email to teachingsupport@uu.nl. Mention your name, Solis-ID, the name of the video and the URL that isn’t working.
Media that is migrated to the Videoplatform is concealed within the search engine to promote the searchability of new content. The relevant video can be shared with students/colleagues via a sharing link or can be made available/visible in consultation with the faculty key-user.
Unfortunately, certain elements from video’s in MyMediasite couldn’t be transferred to the Videoplatform. Examples are: quizzes, polls, annotations and certain statistics. Contact the key-user connected to your faculty for more information.
All videos are copied from MyMediasite to the Videoplatform. Some of these video’s still have to be optimised (transcoded) so that they can be displayed on different formats, such as your mobile phone or tablet, or when the internet connection is poor.
The process of transcoding could cause the video to be unplayable. The process is taking place in the background and is expected to last until the end of August. New recordings will have priority over old recordings.
Whether your video is transcoded is indicated by the green bar within the editing menu:
Video analytics are unfortunately not transferred from MyMediasite to the Videoplatform. Information about the viewcount is however retrievable within the Videoplatform. You can find this information at the ‘Parameters’ section within the editing menu, under the heading ‘external data’. There you will find the viewcount.
No. This isn’t possible anymore. It is still possible to shield your video properly. When you navigate to the editing menu and then to the ‘Permissions’ tab you will be able to manage the rights for the video. Make sure the ‘Unlisted’ option is checked. This means viewers can’t find the video within the platform through the search function.
Secondly, it is important that viewers can’t share your video with others. Navigate to the ‘community’ tab and uncheck the ‘Display sharing section’ option. You can now embed the video wherever you like by using the embed link.
See the FAQ topic ‘Hide your videos’ for more information.
Users who had password protected videos within MyMediasite will be contacted shortly by a key-user from their faculty.
After the migration the ‘owner’ of the video in Mymediasite automatically becomes the ‘speaker’ of the video within the Videoplatform, who automatically receives editor rights to the video. Within MyMediasite the owner often wasn’t equal to the presenter of the video because a key-user or colleague “owned” the video. Contact the key-user connected to your faculty if you need certain permissions on a video.
